There's a reason lavender is used in so many spa services: It really will chill you out. "The reason I like lavender as an essential oil for anxiety is because not only does it contain linalool, which has a sedative effect, it also relaxes the muscles, lowers blood pressure, increases circulation, [and] lowers the cortisol in our bloodstream—all things that we are looking for to help us deal with stress," says Gillerman. And science agrees—in one study, patients suffering from an anxiety disorder were given lavender orally and it improved symptoms of restlessness and disturbed sleep, and had a positive effect on general well-being and quality of life. DoTERRA – Same goes for DoTerra in that they are pricey and that you can get a discount for the kit and even buy from someone else who has them. I really like their spa line of soaps in addition to their oils, and their hair serum. The only real noticeable difference in the actual oils that I have experienced between Young Living and DoTERRA is that the Peppermint oil for DT seemed to have a hint of vanilla smell to it, which didn’t affect its use for us at all. If you’re interested in buying DoTERRA, my friend Alida from The Realistic Mama sells them.
EXCELLENT BUY!! As a herbalist and soap maker, I use a variety of oils from various companies all over the world. The price for these was SO low that I thought, at the very least, I could use them for aroma therapy. They arrived in a beautifully designed box - professionally labeled and WOW was I STUNNED - the fragrance of each one showed very little difference from my finest oils that I have paid MUCH more for! As I am not a chemist - I cannot vouch for the percentages of each constituent, but I can tell you that the oils from the set that I have used thus far - have shown themselves to be just as effective as the high dollar bottle I have bought elsewhere! EXCELLENT Job - I sure hope they restock soon - I am buying MORE!
There has been more open discussion than ever in the health and wellness community about emotional issues like depression and anxiety. Talking about this difficult topic is an enormous step forward on the road to supporting those in need. Questions a Registered Aromatherapists (RA) may be asked is: How does aromatherapy work with sadness and nerves? And Can essential oils REALLY help?
I bought a jar of mag chloride at WF and tried it as a for soak for him. It worked the very first night! However, that jar ( a little over a cup) was $15. am very frugal, (hence interested in this article) and after doing much shopping around I ordered a large bag of Ancient Minerals Magnesium Flakes from Amazon, and it works out so much less expensive that way. Now I use 1/2c in a gallon of the hottest water possible and he soaks for 30 minutes each night. No more cramps. BONUS: when he’s done, I reheat half of that water in the micro and soak my own feet in it. I have osteoarthritis and general soreness all over, and there is a significant difference in my pain level now, as well. Mag is a great anti inflammatory nutrient.
This refreshing and stimulating essential oil has many different benefits, including promoting memory retention and alertness. Include Rosemary 1,8-Cineole in your skin care routine and shampoo to support healthy hair growth and skin. Diffuse this oil to aid in respiratory troubles. Add this spice and herb oil it to your diet to promote a healthy digestive tract. Rosemary 1,8-Cineole can be included in massages to increase circulation and help relax muscles.
Aromatherapy: Through the practice of aromatherapy, essential oils are diluted in water and released into the air using a diffuser. Breathing in essential oil molecules may stimulate parts of your brain that influence physical, emotional, and mental health. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, for example, some scientists believe that inhaling lavender essential oil may affect brain cells in a similar manner to some mild sedatives, while other researchers believe these molecules may interact with hormones or enzymes in the blood.(6)
doTERRA is a popular, reliable essential oil pick for aromatherapy buffs: reviewers across Amazon frequently mention them as a litmus test for comparing the quality of other oils on the site. This kit is nice for people seeking better sleep who already have some experience with essential oils and are willing to drop more money on a premium set. It contains 10 oils and blends customized to promote wellness, and there are plenty of selections that may induce a restful slumber.
Hi Dave, So sorry to hear about the medical issues your family is facing. There is quite a bit written about using essential oils for cancer though I don’t have the info at my finger tips. I would be happy to see if I can find more info on where to direct you if you haven’t already found it. If you have an email or Facebook or some other way to be reached it might be a better way to converse. But either way one place you can go to get some ideas about other peoples experiences with various oils is oil-testimonials.com you can sign up for the free membership and then do searches on whatever you would like.”leukemia” “child leukemia” “Crohns” etc. It was formed for people using YL oils to share so some of the blends mentioned will be YL but it doesn’t mean you have to use YL to get the results. High quality oils are high quality oils, that said quality is so important especially when talking about treating something as major as the things you are and in my experience YL does produce high quality oils. I myself have treated Tertiary Chronic Lyme and having used both traditional antibiotics (IV, pills, suspension and sometimes all at the same time) and essential oils and can attest to the oils working as well as any other protocol I have been on without the side effects…well you probably see where I’m going. That doesn’t mean Young Living is the only company producing oils of that quality, they aren’t, nor does it mean I’m advocating the MLM approach, signing up was worth while for me to receive the discount since I order so many oils and I will sometimes order for other people at my discount but I have never pursued the business end of it. I also have and do use other companies oils and think investigating and having several sources is wise for various reasons. Anyway, sorry to go on so much your situation just struck a nerve. Feel free to contact me if you would like.
Thyme is often used to treat respiratory problems. Thyme essential oil can help central sleep apnea, which is caused by a miscommunication between the brain and respiratory system. Thyme essential oil helps keep the respiratory system strong and healthy, and is often used as a natural treatment for the cold. Like lavender, it also has antibacterial properties.

There are many natural oils that can help to clear out toxins and impurities from our bodies. Chemicals and toxins can easily find their way into our internal systems these days – and often, they can damage our health in more ways than we realize. This is why it can be important to ensure that we promote the process of detoxification with essential oils.

This may be important because according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, an estimated 40 million American adults suffer from anxiety disorders.(21) While consulting a doctor to seek to address the causes of mental challenges, using essential oils is sometimes seen as an alternative or supportive therapy. For those looking to essential oils for additional support, the following oils may provide optimal support.
The practice of using essential oils is known as aromatherapy, and these oils are highly concentrated liquids extracted from a plant, explains Hope Gillerman, certified aromatherapist and author of Essential Oils Every Day. "And while they have a very strong aroma, it's not the aroma itself that has the beneficial effect," she says. "It's the chemicals in the liquid that can have a physiological and chemical effect on your brain chemistry and body."

I went to an Essential oils party last week (YL). They had everyone put a little bit of water in a glass, then a drop of oil (I used grapefruit) and then fill the rest with water and drink. I wondered if it was safe since I’m 27 weeks pregnant, but since the leader made no mention of caution (and one of them was also pregnant) I assumed it was ok. Now after doing research, I’m horrified and so worried I have harmed my baby! What are your thoughts? Since grapefruit is on the “safe” list and I only used one drop (and don’t plan to ever again!) do you think it’s ok? I’m completely panicking and so mad at myself for making an assumption.
Do you get that feeling of anxiousness at times? Or perhaps you get bouts of low energy levels coupled with low moods - if this is you, frankincense essential oil might be just what the doctor ordered. A gentle, subtle but powerful oil, frankincense might not be as strong as the citrusy and minty oils on our list but it has a lifting, lingering, long-lasting aroma that can have positive effects on the limbic system and balance your energy levels.
Plant Therapy are our number one choice when it comes to buying essential oils for many reasons. All oils are 100% pure, free of additives, adulterants and dilutions, the prices are affordable, the website is high quality and easy to navigate, they offer free shipping, a 90 day guarantee and free returns. They also offer pretty much every oil under the sun, have a range of organic oils, high quality starter kits and even a selection of diffusers and accessories.

Essence by Isagenix does the heavy lifting for you. We’ve cut through the complex science to show you how these no-compromise products can fit in to the Isagenix Systems you already love. We’ve harnessed the power of nature to bring you a high-quality collection of essential oils and blends that you can feel confident using – all while you target your desired results.
Don’t overdo it though. Remember, these oils are extremely concentrated. Prolonged exposure to essential oils can cause ill effects like headaches, nausea or other unpleasant symptoms. Vary your use with different oils of different chemical compounds so that they don’t build up in your system. And avoid letting your diffuser run all day, every day; there is a such thing as too much of a good thing.

At Plant Therapy we strive to stay on the cutting-edge of Aromatherapy safety and education. To ensure the quality of our oils, every single oil is GC/MS tested by third-party experts, and those results are open to the public. We strive to set a standard for safety and transparency in the industry, continue to educate our customers and share up-to-date information with every member of our staff. We take great pride in making sure our oils are safe, pure and natural.
Lavender is so powerful for treating anxiety in essential oil form, in fact, that it is currently approved for use as an anxiolytic in Germany under the name Lasea. In a survey paper on Lavender and the nervous system published in 2013 researchers stated that “there is growing evidence suggesting that lavender oil may be an effective medicament in treatment of several neurological disorders.” [12,13]

I’m curious why you didn’t just get your protein shake powders from YL, if you only wanted one auto-ship order? Seed to Seal is more than a trademarked “CPTG” label. And you have so much more variety in oils and Thieves cleaner, shampoo etc. As you know, we own or coop all of our farms and distill ourselves. We perform 20 tests in triplicate. And we do 1st distillation only – so they contain all the hydrophilic molecules from the plant. Do you know if the Essence line uses 1st distill or complete distill? If they’re fractionated they won’t contain all of the molecules – would have probably lost some sesquiterpenes and smell sweeter. I’ve been to 2 of the European farms and the process is nothing short of amazing. Blending is an art and not so simple as mixing the same oils together to duplicate a blend by another company. It doesn’ t bother me that other companies are getting in on the essential oil bandwagon. More natural solutions – less pharmaceuticals. That’s a good thing! But, I wish someone else would be original for a change. It bothers me that all the companies try to duplicate YL blends. Only the “real thing” gets copied. No one copies a counterfeit. For the record, Valor doesn’t contain Valerian. It’s not a “sleep” blend. It’s for grounding and confidence. Perhaps you are thinking of RutaVaLa. Consider flip-flopping your decision and get your morning protein powder shake from YL. 😉
Then we purchased bottles of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), and Lemon (Citrus limon) from each of the seven companies we selected to perform our in-house testing. We gathered a group of four people from our office and administered a formal blind smell test to evaluate which oils smelled the best and which smelled the worst out of the selections.

As is pointed out in the article EOs are not really “Oils” in the sense that they lack the lipid content necessary to make them a true oil. That is why we need carrier oils – that is what allows the EOs to be absorbed into the skin and thus into the cellular level. The carrier picks up the EO and transports it through the lipid barrier of the cells where they work. At a guess the carrier acts as a buffer in the bloodstream limiting the potential irritation of the EO to the bloodstream.

Plants, like other living things, need to protect themselves from various types of predators. Plants use terpenoid compounds to deter insects and other animals from approaching them. Shawe pointed out that “insects are very rarely found on peppermint plants and the presence of linalol in the peel of citrus fruits confers resistance to attack by the Caribbean fruit fly.” 5 The Douglas fir tree releases a complex mixture of volatile oils, or terpenes, from their needles to defend against the spruce budworm. Even more fascinating is that the Douglas fir trees “will vary the composition and production of terpenes each year thus decreasing the ability of the budworm to develop widespread immunity to specific compounds.6
When you breathe in, those particles go in two directions. "They instantly go into your sinuses, where there are nerve receptors from the olfactory part of the brain," she says. "The vapor is then absorbed directly into the brain tissue, where it impacts memory, emotion and the lymphatic brain, which is connected to your heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing," says Gillerman. "But the particles are also inhaled into your lungs, where they enter your bloodstream and get involved in your [hormonal] endocrine system, where they change your body's reaction to stress." (Learn More About the Potential Health Benefits of Essential Oils.)

Thanks to these attributes, many of these ingredients are able to fight off a wide range of viruses, infections, and pathogens. Using these kinds of oils is often a natural and safer way to combat illness and keep the body healthy – particularly over long periods of time. This could prove to be especially beneficial for those suffering with long-term or chronic disorders.
There's nothing like the refreshing scent of peppermint! Minty oils like peppermint, eucalyptus and spearmint are excellent for increasing mental clarity, concentration and staying alert. Whether you use them to feel fresh in the morning, or to snap out off a mid-afternoon lull - potent and powerful, minty oils are incredibly versatile and will give you an instant caffeine-free energy boost when you need it!

What I found most impressive is that they control their product right from the very botanical seeds; cultivating, harvesting and distilling many of their essential oils right on their very own farms across the world. This gives Young Living the unique ability to verify their quality standards at every step of the process. For more information on this, check out their proprietary Seed to Seal production process.

Aromatherapy is the practice of inhaling the scent of essential oils to improve your well-being. One theory of how they work is that by stimulating the smell receptors in your nose, they can send messages to your nervous system. They are also thought to have a subtle effect on the body’s chemical and energy systems. Because of this, aromatherapy is often used as a natural remedy to relieve anxiety and stress.
Choose oils from companies that list the Latin name and common name of the label as well as the country of origin. In this way, you can be better assured of buying the correct oil rather than one that may be generically named. Sandalwood essential oil, for example, can come from many different types of sandalwood and many different countries, some better than others.
Lavender is considered to be the most common essential oil for its calming, relaxing effect. It helps with sleep, restlessness, panic attacks, and general nervous tension. Patti Lyons, owner of Peace Valley Lavender Farm in Doylestown, Pa., believes "the power of lavender to stimulate and supplement in the body's healing forces is unmatched by modern pharmaceuticals."
Immediately after receiving my oils, I posted my review on here and it was very negative. I spoke about how the bottles leaked and the oils smelled metallic and, in general, gave a really negative review. I have since visited my local health food store and purchased their versions of some of the oils offered here. Now is where I apologize. I didn't realize the quality oils kis had compared to others. Their eucalyptus and peppermint are the best I found so far! To be fair, the bottles do tend to leak so store them upright. And, I still cannot stand their lavender (which is the bottle that leaked on the rest and tinted my view.) All in all, these are very fine oils and I will be ordering again. Now, if they only sold bigger bottles...

Only using pure essential oils free of additives or synthetic ingredients is especially important when using essential oils to help your baby sleep. Check both the oil and the carrier oil’s lists of ingredients to ensure they don’t contain anything your baby is allergic to, such as peanut oil. Although it can be safe for adults, you should never apply undiluted essential oils directly to your baby’s skin or allow them to ingest the oil.

RC and Raven (YL Blends) are a few that I have used for myself and family for breathing issues. And Digize (also a Young Living Blend) is excellent for digestion, acid, and upset. Peppermint and Fennel are also options to look into. As far as best brand, you will have to do your research. I have been very happy with Young Living, but I know many will find the “best” from various sources to make up their essential oil cabinet. You will not want to use a vaporizer for your oils, I would suggest purchasing a diffuser which is designed to disperse your oils, over time essential oils will breakdown plastic tubing. A search on Amazon or Abundanthealth.com is a place to start looking at diffusers. You can also get a free one in premium kits sold by Young Living. Please feel free to contact me.
It's understandable for those new to aromatherapy to want every essential oil. But it takes time to build your own apothecary and connect with different scents. If you are looking to get started, I suggest buying three common, well-priced, and effective essential oils with few safety concerns: lavender, tea tree, and sweet orange. Buy a diffuser and use it. Diffusing is an incredibly economical use of oils that allows you to use them every day while not being overwhelmed with learning curves for safety with topical application and DIY product formulation. Additionally, aromatherapy has many uses—health, skin care, cleaning, etc. So, it's important to align the quality of oils with your needs. For instance, I use well-researched, high-quality oils on my face but am less rigid when choosing oils to include in DIY house-cleaning products. And if you're into aromatherapy for skin care, start with hydrosols. Hydrosols are the water-based by-product of the distillation process, but they are much gentler and cheaper than essential oils.

There are several ingredient differences between the TumBliss oil, DiGize, and TummyGize. TummyGize is meant for kids so it’s blended in a coconut oil base. There are several overlapping ingredients in all three formulas. This type of oil is meant for digestive support, whether you need to get things moving or feel sick to your stomach. Luckily we don’t need this very often at our house but I do like keeping it around.

There are many essential oils that can be applied topically or used aromatically to reduce body aches and pains. One study that displays this essential oil benefit evaluated the efficacy of essential oils on neck pain. For the study, the experimental group received a cream that was composed of marjoram, black pepper, lavender and peppermint essential oils, and the control group used an unscented cream. The creams were applied for 4 weeks, directly to the painful area after bathing. Researchers found that the experimental group had improved pain tolerance in the neck and showed significant improvement in the 10 motion areas that were measured. (15)
I tested grapefruit oil from Eden’s Garden, tea tree oil from Tea Tree Therapy, and vetiver oil from Nature’s Kiss brand (I think the tea tree oil I bought in a natural food store and the other brands from Amazon?), all on the same strip of yellow construction paper. After 20 minutes, there is a huge oily spot from the Nature’s Kiss oil (and looking at the label, I can see now it is embarrassingly low quality production as it looks sort of cheaply homemade- don’t recommend ever buying that brand if you see it). The Tea Tree Therapy spot is smaller and a little lighter, but still definitely an oily stain. The smallest, lightest one is the Eden’s Garden grapefruit spot, which I’m sort of glad about considering most of my oils are that brand, but I can still definitely see where it was dropped. I can’t really imagine an oil not leaving any spot behind at all, but if I ever find one that does, I would be very impressed.

Many people prefer to use essential oils because they’re natural and don’t create the common side effects associated with many sleep medications, such as daytime drowsiness or more serious health risks. For example, a 2010 study found smelling jasmine to be just as effective at calming the nerves as a sleeping pill or sedative, but without any adverse side effects.
Diffusion is the process of dispersing essential oils so that their aroma fills a room or an area with the essential oil fragrance. Therefore, a diffuser is a device that diffuses the essential oil into the air. There are several types of diffusers available on the market in 2018, and many have reviews that may help you decide which one may be right for you, if you are interested in getting a diffuser.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, essential oils are highly concentrated and contain active ingredients. For instance, it takes 220 lbs of lavender flowers to make 1 lb of lavender essential oil. Depending on their use, most essential oils should be diluted first before use. Diluting essential oils helps spread the aromatic, concentrated molecules over a larger area, making it easier and more comfortable for the body to absorb.
There are three ways in which essential oils enter the body: orally, topically, and aromatically. Due to the high antioxidant properties of a great number of essential oils, oral administration is only carried out under direct guidance from a healthcare practitioner to treat very serious conditions. Compounds in the oils can cause some serious side-effects if incorrectly ingested.
This peaceful, calming scent provides a range of benefits from inner harmony to decreasing irritability, overthinking, anxiety, and worry. A 2012 study in the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine found chamomile oil could provide meaningful antidepressant activity in addition to its observed anxiolytic activity. In other words, it could potentially ease anxiety symptoms in patients.

If asked which ten items I'd want to have with me if marooned on a deserted island, three of the ten would probably be essential oils. I have a diffuser going in my apartment 24/7, my collection has outgrown its home three times now, and my boyfriend affectionately refers to me as "The Witch Doctor" whenever I whip one out of my purse. Needless to say, I'm a huge believer in the healing benefits of the best organic essential oils, but I'm also hyper-aware of the dangers associated with poor-quality ones.
I highly recommend it. If you will take the time to read his information, he clearly shows that many of the “leading” EO companies utilize deceptive marketing to push impure or adulterated EO’s for therapeutic use. He also gives (and references) many non-standard use instructions as well as use in conjunction with herbs. Very good info even if you choose not to purchase EO’s from the site.
When purchasing oils online, it is not uncommon for larger sizes of essential oils to be shipped in plastic containers to avoid breakage and reduce shipping fees. Essential oils, however, can dissolve plastic bottles and the quality of the oil can deteriorate more rapidly. When receiving oils shipped in plastic or clear glass, be sure to immediately transfer the essential oils to dark colored glass bottles, unless you plan to use the essential oil (i.e. formulate with it) immediately. You can find bottle suppliers listed within AromaWeb's Global Aromatherapy Business Directory. It's a savvy idea to keep empty bottles on hand. If you purchase from a supplier that ships in plastic, ask them how long the oil has been stored in the plastic bottles prior to shipment. Ideally, you want to work with suppliers that transfer to plastic just prior to shipment.

Yes, many companies do GC/MS testing and infrared. The real test is, what do they compare the results to and what is that company’s standard for what a good oil is? If their standard is high, then they may reject oils which are below that standard. If their standard is not so high, then they will accept and sell more oils, even ones that have been rejected by a company with higher standards.
I think Lavender and Frankincense are powerhouse oils that have so many uses! For me when emotional issues come up I ‘m finding the Worry Free Synergy, Self Esteem Synergy and Brain Aid Synergy and most anything citrusy are my go to oils. I do find for me most of the time I don’t love Bergamot it has a pungent sour type smell for me which is amusing as most say it is sweet and lovely. I would absolutely love to smell the Neroli single but haven’t yet.

Bath: Avoid dripping your essential oil directly into the bath water; you always want to mix it first with a natural emulsifier like honey, milk, a carrier oil, or even sea salt. Doing this will help emulsify and disperse the essential oils into the water. If you don’t do this, the oils will simply sit on the surface of the water and come into direct contact with your skin, possibly causing burns and dermal toxicity.
I have been bothered by yeast infections in past yrs(vaginal) knowing that most essential oils have antibacterial properties I did the following; In 1 cup bottled water I put 8 to 10 drops Rosemary essential oil, stirred it up, wet a washcloth with it and bathed the area. I had immeadiate relief from the horrible itching. If it came back do it again..It only took 2 treatments for me. that was a Godsend to me.
An easy way to integrate aromatherapy into your everyday life is through diffusing. I turn to my diffuser for a multitude of reasons—when I want to set an ambience, reduce stress, support sleep, and increase alertness or motivation. Diffusion refers to a method of transmitting essential oils into the air within a specified area. Diffusing supports a multitude of goals, but it mainly serves two purposes: reducing air microbes and altering mood and emotion. Clinical research shows that diffused lemon essential oil is an affordable intervention that has a positive effect on test anxiety. Additionally, diffusing cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary is an uplifting blend that also serves as a safe way to keep your home’s air germ-free.
Another added benefit of diffusion is its ability to clean the air. When the air in a space is stagnant, smelly and unclean — like in the winter when your home is closed up — there can be infectious airborne bacteria, viruses and spores floating about ready to make you sick. But when the right essential oil is diffused, in the correct amount, you can actually kill those little buggers in the air before they get to you.
With pills and pharmaceuticals now at a record high, it should come as no surprise to learn that more and more people are turning to holistic treatments as a complement to modern medicine – and this is one of the reasons why brands such as doTERRA are becoming increasingly popular. According to an article on PubMed.gov, certain extracts of these oils can even be used to combat salivary estrogen in perimenopausal women – an ability that even modern medicines aren’t able to offer.

Topical application of essential oils can be especially beneficial, since the oils will actually permeate your skin due to their transdermal properties. As a result, not only will you smell them through your olfactory nerve, but they’ll also enter your bloodstream more quickly. However, if you have sensitive skin or allergies, you should avoid applying topically altogether, or otherwise diffuse the oil with a carrier oil such as organic coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or olive oil. Children also should avoid topical application, use more diluted amounts than adults, and shouldn’t begin using essential oils until they are at least 6 months old.

I really like DoTerra brand essential oils. I have many of them and find them high quality. All essential oils that are sold are in business. Whether it’s MLM or not. I don’t have a problem with that at all (but maybe it’s just me). Young Living was once considered by many to be the “best” but now that DoTerra’s been on the market (I don’t know, maybe five years or so?) they have competition. Apparently people from Young Living (I’m not sure if that’s the name) broke away and started DoTerra. In any case, if it’s purity and therapeutic grade I personally think both are good companies. Some like DoTerra more so that’s what got me started on them.
Another common name for tea tree oil is Melaleuca. Used topically, this essential oil has purifying qualities to obtain and maintain clear skin and scalp. Used internally, it promotes a healthy immune system to relieve symptoms of a cough or a cold. Used aromatically, this oil fills the room with an outdoor, flowery scent that clears the air of seasonal and environmental threats.
I use Young Living Essential Oils. They are the most pure and best for anyone. Most articles say not to ingest them (that means that something hidden has been added). I would steer clear of those companies. Young Living can be ingested. I am motivated to use them because they do work. go to Young Living website and check it out. If you are interested in signing up, contact me. Signing up means buying at 24% discount. You are able to earn free products. Other oil companies are less expensive, that is because the process of producing it means cutting corners. I want the most pure. I will pay extra for the best.
